Now 36 years old, João Medeiros gained a PhD in theoretical cosmology from Imperial College London before moving into journalism. In 2015, he was shortlisted for the Writer of the Year Award by the Periodical Publishers Association, and he spoke at TEDxOporto.
In his role as the science editor at WIRED magazine, João oversees its science coverage and writes across various sections of the magazine and website. He has written many long-form stories for WIRED, including four cover stories. He also edits two sections: Ideas Bank, which gives space each month to authors and thinkers to write a powerful argument backed with data; and R&D, a section devoted to scientific breakthroughs and scientists. Medeiros also curates WIRED Health, a successful conference which every year congregates the top global healthcare innovators in London.
