Elaine Fox

Elaine is Professor of Psychology and Affective Neuroscience at the University of Oxford where she runs the Oxford Centre for Emotion and Affective Neuroscience (OCEAN), which investigates how genes, environments and cognitive biases conspire to produce resilience or emotional vulnerability. Elaine is a passionate advocate for the accurate and engaging reporting of neuroscience and psychology to the general public. In addition to her popular science book Rainy Brain Sunny Brain published in 2012, she has been involved with several TV documentaries including working with BBC1 on a documentary on the health effects of mobile phones; the genetics of optimism and wellbeing with the actor Michael J. Fox for an ABC documentary; and a BBC2 Horizon programme where she (successfully) shifted the presenter Michael Mosley’s brain from pessimistic to optimistic.
