Johnjoe McFadden is Professor of Molecular Genetics at the University of Surrey. His principal research area is investigating genetics of microbes that cause infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis; but he also writes popular science articles for newspapers such as The Guardian or the Washington Post on topics such as GM crops, evolution, gene cloning and synthetic biology. He wrote the book “Quantum Evolution” in 2001, co-edited ‘Human Nature: Fact and Fiction’ in 2006; and is co-author with Jim Al-Khalili of the book, “Life on the Edge: The Coming Age of Quantum Biology published in 2014. He is currently working on a book on Ockham’s razor.
