Do your authors ever do events?

They certainly do. If you are interested in having one of our authors speak at an event, please email us at assistant@pewliterary.com, including as much detail as possible in your message.

I live outside the UK. Will you read my book?

Most of our authors are UK-based – in most cases, local representation makes more sense for both client and agent. We are happy, however, to consider submissions from overseas.

What genres do you represent?

We are very proud of our strong list of non-fiction and literary fiction, but we also represent writers of graphic novels and crime thrillers, among other genres. We welcome submissions in all genres apart from poetry, drama, children's picture books, and books aimed at an entirely academic readership.

Do you offer feedback on submissions?

We receive many submissions, and consider each of them carefully. Our first commitment, however, is to our existing authors, and we are therefore unable to provide detailed reasons as to why a submission was not right for us at PEW.

What is your commission?

We take a commission of 15 per cent for home and home audio sales (British Commonwealth) and 20 per cent for US, Canada, translation, overseas audio, film and television. No commission is charged to an author unless they have agreed and signed a deal, so our authors always have the authority to say 'no'. Furthermore, we don’t earn any commission until our authors are already making money – so it is in our interests to negotiate the best possible terms for our authors.

How do I contact an author?

We are, of course, unable to give our personal mail or email addresses for our authors. If you would like to contact them, send an email to assistant@pewliterary.com, and we will forward it to the respective author. All post for authors is forwarded onto them, though we are unable to guarantee a reply. Please write to:

Are you hiring?

We're a small office of only two people and one dog, so unfortunately we don't currently have any vacancies or space for interns. We are also unable to keep speculative CVs on file. Vacancies in publishing are usually listed in the Bookseller.

Can I have a free copy of a book?

Unfortunately, we only keep a couple of copies of each book for our reference shelves. If you write for a newspaper or have a brilliant blog and need a copy for reviewing purposes, contact the publicity department of the relevant publishing house, who should be able to help.

Can I meet with you before I send in my work?

We normally don't meet potential clients until we have read their work. If we enjoy your writing, we will get in touch to organise a meeting.

Do you handle film and television rights?

In partnership with wonderful and trusted film and television agents, we do indeed look after the dramatic rights of our authors' books.
