Dr Frances Larson is a research associate at the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford. It was in this Museum that she first encountered the famous shrunken heads from South America which inspired her to write Severed: A History of Heads Lost and Heads Found, a book that was published to wide acclaim in 2014. She is also the author of an acclaimed biography of Henry Wellcome, An Infinity of Things (OUP, 2009). Her latest book, Undreamed Shores: The Hidden Heroines of British Anthropology is published by Granta. Her research focuses on how objects have shaped academic disciplines, institutions like museums, and individual people’s lives.
