Jack Ashby is the Assistant Director of the University of Cambridge’s Museum of Zoology, an honorary research fellow in the Department of Science and Technology Studies at University College London, and President of the Society for the History of Natural History. He studies the amazing mammals of Australia, both in the museum and out in the field, working on conservation projects there each year. Jack is the winner of the Zoological Society of London’s award for communicating zoology.
He is also the author of Platypus Matters: The Extraordinary Story of Australian Mammals (William Collins; University of Chicago Press) and Wild: A Family Guide to the Animal Kingdom (Magic Cat).
His latest book, Nature's Memory: Behind the Scenes at the World's Natural History Museums, was published in 2025 by Allen Lane.
